I figured you need some relevant topics to discuss specific to the cyberpunk ethos.

The Singularity – when technology coalesces to a point where disparate technological fields converge to a single point that may intersect with biology itself and ultimately transcend it.

There are many disciplines that are currently being mapped against Moore’s Law that point almost mathematically towards that point of convergence.

Some people say it’s the point where Artificial Intelligence goes “live” (I think this is only part of it) – but in order to do that you need the processing power roughly equivalent to a human brain. That’s a *tremendous* amount of processing power. Many mathematicians say somewhere near the exascale range (a billion-billion operations per second). Well Intel/NVIDIA is currently on schedule with the first exaflop machine. The ramifications are important because they believe that for the first time a computer will be able to process data at the same scale as a human brain.

Couple this with the Human Brain Project – https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/ and the possibilities start to get very interesting.

Of course there’s a whole host of other fun things that need to occur in parallel:

Cheap power – Moore’s Law is driving renewable energy sector too! http://www.strategy-business.com/article/00087?pg=all as energy prices drop, and the methods of containing and utilizing this energy shrinks (nanotechnology) it will be a human revolution.

Cybernetics – man-machine interface. It doesn’t get more cyberpunk than that! Within the last month we’ve seen the first tactile cybernetic limbs – http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/02/05/bionic-hand-amputee-feels/5229665/

prosthetic limbs so dextrous you can tie your shoe laces with them: http://inhabitat.com/upgraded-bebionic3-prosthetic-hand-can-tie-shoelaces-peel-vegetables-and-even-touch-type/

How far behind with neural interface be? They’re already here: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/149879-brown-university-creates-first-wireless-implanted-brain-computer-interface

And in accordance with Moore’s Law… every year that goes by – we march exponentially closer.
